Abstract
The study was on The Influence of Laboratory Practical and Instructional Media in the Learning of Biologyin Secondary School Students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study wasconducted with the objectives among others to: investigate the influence of laboratorypractical in learning biology and how it affects the performance of students inthesubject.In line with the stated objectives, four research questions were formulated for thestudy. The study adopted the use of descriptive survey research design and a totalpopulation of one hundred and fifty (150) students were randomly selected. A hundred and fifty (150) copies of questionnaire were administered,consisting of fifteen (15) Biology students selected from ten (10) sample schools inOvia North East Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State.
The instrument tagged; Influence of Laboratory Practical and Instructional Media in Learning of Biology Questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents. This instrument was validated and a reliability index of 0.759 was obtained. Data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics namely; frequency distribution and percentage Mean value.
Findings of the study among others revealed that students derive joy in using laboratory practical and instructional media in learning biology. It also helps students in developing their skills while using laboratory practical and instructional media in learning Biology. The researcher recommended that: all the topics in Biology which are practical oriented should be taught in the laboratory, using all the necessary equipment and reagents. Also, science laboratories in schools should be equipped with modern equipment and other necessary teaching aids or instructional materials.
