ABSTRACT

The study examined the influence of health education programme for socio economic development of rural women in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State gives details on the positive influence of the programme. Four research question were raised and the purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of health education programme for socio economic development of rural women in Egor local government area of Edo State.

The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey where a total sample of 90 respondents drawn through stratified and simple random .The instrument that was used for the study was a set of sixteen (16) structured questionnaires. After expert validation of the instrument, it was pilot –tested for reliability. The reliability coefficient was determined using Cronbach alpha procedure and it came up to 0.71. The data were analysed simple percentage and mean score analysis.

The major findings of the study include the fact that health education programmes have improved the lifestyle of the rural women in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State such as positives changes in their lifestyle and improvement in their physical health. It was also discovered that there are lots of socio economic benefits of health education programme to rural women in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State such as promoting the income and their health care expenditure. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that their also barriers affecting effective delivery of health education programme for the socio economic development of rural women of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State such as scheduling conflicts and illiteracy. The study therefore recommended   that the government should make available adequate funding for the implementation of health education programme in the rural areas and there should be alots of trained personnel that can empower the rural women more about their health.
