Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the family structure on Juvenile crime (delinquency) in Benin City. This study made use of variables such as influence of intact family structure on juvenile crimes, single parenthood (father only/mother only) structure contribution to the rates of juvenile crimes, step parenthood structure influence on juvenile crime , ways of curbing juvenile criminal behaviour amongst children. This study adopted a cross-sectional study design using quantitative research method. The study used the Taro Yamane sample formula to arrive at the total number of respondent which was 400. The study made use of both stratified random sampling technique. This made use of both secondary and primary sources to gather relevant data for this study. The study concludes that children who are exposed to juvenile delinquency crime comes from broken homes or are trained by single parent. The study also recommends that parent should teach their children good morals and spiritual lesson irrespective of the religion they belong. Paying close attention to their children personal life and private affairs. Children who haven’t come of age should not be given free access to social media. Parent should learn to preview movies before allowing their children to watch and if need be install parental guidance on the satellite dish. Most importantly parent should spend more time with their children and also get to know their children friends. Government should Endeavour to use all avenues in discouraging children in committing crime and also educating parent on how to handle children who have the potentials of being juvenile delinquent or are juvenile delinquent.
