Influence of E-Learning on Academic Performance of Political Science Education Students of the University of Benin

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the influence of e-learning on academic performance of business education students in the University of Benin. The study objective was to determine the extent to which e-learning improve student academic performance; to examine the relationship between perceived usefulness of e-learning and academic performance; to examine the relationship between perceived ease of use of elearning on academic performance; and to determine the extent to which the challenge of e-learning impact academic performance. The survey research design was adopted for this study, being method of collecting data by presenting questions to people through questionnaire. The instrument used for the gathering data was the questionnaire named e-learning and academic performance questionnaire (ELAAPQ). The entire three hundred and seventy-nine (379) business education students of the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin constitute the population of the study. The researcher administered eighty (80) questionnaires to respondents, out of which seventy-five (75) were retrieved for the purpose of analysis. The data collected was analyzed in tables and percentage. The findings from the analysis revealed, among other things, that e-learning, perceived usefulness of e-learning significantly influence student academic performance; that there is a relationship between perceived ease of use of e-learning and academic performance; and that challenge of e-learning affect academic performance. In line with the finding, the study recommended that all tertiary institution management should make a consorted effort to provide e-learning environments that would enhance student performances in schools and also facilitate their self-development efforts.
