Abstract
This study examined the influence of divorce among parents on the performance of secondary school students in Christian Religions Study in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, five research questions were raised and two hypothesis was formulated
The population of this study consisted of four thousand and forty two (4042) JSS 2 students in the thirteen (13) Public Junior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State The sample size consist of 100 JSS 3 students from four (4) Public Junior secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. The instrument was validated by the supervisor. Data collected for research question were analysed using mean and standard deviation while the hypothesis was tested with Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient at 0,05 level of significance
. The findings from the research questions showed that divorce among parents of secondary schools students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State is not a new occurrence and also it is increasing in the society, there is low level of divorce among parents of secondary schools students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, that level of academic performance of students from divorced parents in Christian Religions Study in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State is high, there a significant relationship between parental divorce and students academic performance in Christian Religions Study in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, there is difference in the academic performance of students from divorced families and those from intact family. Based on the findings it was recommended that Parents, mostly those divorced, should ensure that they maintain good relationships with their children. This will help the child to continue their cognitive development.
