ABSTRACT
Benin City faces the difficulty of providing housing for its residents, particularly the historically disadvantaged population, who seek employment opportunities and an improvement in their quality of life in urban regions. The Edo State building sector must be proactive in its approach to the construction of affordable housing and must employ construction practices that increase sustainable housing development in order to realize this admirable goal. It was born from the necessity for study to identify how sustainable development concepts may be included in home construction processes, with a goal of developing solutions to provide inexpensive housing that promotes sustainability to satisfy the state’s desire for adequate housing. The study established a conceptual model through a thorough analysis of the literature currently in print; among other things, it looked at Edo State’s housing policies and laws, sustainable building development, socioeconomic factors, and sustainable building construction methodologies. The study used a sequential mixed method technique for data gathering, conducting a preliminary qualitative survey to confirm the presence of the research issues highlighted in this study and to validate the elements of the conceptual model.
