ABSTRACT
This study examined entrepreneurship education among students in the University of Benin. The objective of the study was to examine the means of entrepreneurship education, barriers to entrepreneurship education and the importance of entrepreneurship education among students. The methodology adopted in the study was sampling techniques using in determining the samples size fort the research work. The questionnaire was administered to 140 students of the University of Benin and analysed using means and standard deviation. The findings of the study revealed that entrepreneurship education occurs among students through the social media, online discussion groups, tutorials, peer coaching, conference, lecturing etc. the factors that enhance entrepreneurship education among students is the availability of team work spirit, availability of reward or incentives, flexible organizational structure, trust, motivation, good leadership style, collaborative working environments etc. the barriers to entrepreneurship education culture, fear of providing wrong information, rigid organizational structure, inadequate technological resources, inadequate awareness on entrepreneurship education etc. improvement in performance, increment in knowledge capacity, encouragement of collaboration were highlighted as the importance of entrepreneurship education. Conclusion drawn was that entrepreneurship education improves students’ performance generally and as a result, the performance and standard of the academic institution is improved. Therefore, it was recommended that University of Benin should bring to students the awareness and importance of entrepreneurship education. There should also be a provision of entrepreneurship education infrastructures and less emphasis should be placed on grade as it may encourage students to view knowledge as power.
