Abstract
Human beings are social beings and hardly ever live and work in isolation. We always plan, develop and manage our relations both consciously and unconsciously. The relations are the outcome of our actions and depend to a great extent upon our ability to manage our actions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance of Human Resources Management in Promoting Employee Performance; A Case Study of Faculty of Education, University of Benin. A descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. Five(4) research questions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study consist of the two hundred and fifty six(256) staffs (academic and non- academic staffs) from the nine (9) departments in faculty of education , university of Benin ,with a sample of one hundred and fifty(150) staffs in the department of educational management as respondents using the cluster sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Management ; while the test- re test reliability method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study reveals that the role of HRM in an Organization include; staffing, develop workplace policies, perform recruitment and selection process ,and to train and monitor the skills of the employees. The importance of HRM in enhancing organizational performance include; to manage strategies ,works toward reducing costs, and ensures job placement and transfer in other to get the right person for the job.
