ABSTRACT

This study examines the impoliteness strategies exercised by youth leaders affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and People's Democratic Party (PDP) during political debates. Specifically, we seek to identify and dissect the tactics employed to insult, mock, and assert positions. The dataset utilised in this research were sourced from Transcripts and video recordings and data for the analysis of this contrast were drawn from both oral and written materials. They were subjected to a content and critical analysis From the strategies framework proposed by Culpepper for analyzing impoliteness speech, only two are mostly used in the debates between APC, LP, PDP youth leaders. They are the bald on record and negative politeness strategies. This strategies like using foul language and unfounded assumptions to attack the face of the other youth presidential candidates, ensuring that they remain intimidated. In conclusion, this research has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that impolite language is a tool used in debates between APC, LP, PDP youth leaders to gain unfair advantage and compel judges to do their bidding
