IMPOLITENESS IN HENRY AKUBUIRO’S PRODIGALS IN PARADISE

ABSTRACT

This paper specifically aims at identifying and analyzing impolite linguistic and paralinguistic elements used by characters in Henry Akubuiro’s Prodigals in Paradise. In the analysis of this research, the qualitative approach was applied to some impolite events that occurred in the novel in order to have an in depth understanding of what impoliteness is and how Akubuiro used it in his novel Prodigals in Paradise. It was discovered that impoliteness in Henry Akubuiro’s Prodigals in Paradise isused to affect the development of the personality of characters and used in the events that develop the themes of the novel.
