ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the impact of health education on family planning practices in Nigeria: Assessing the influence of health education interventions on family planning awareness and practices among mothers attending antenatal in university of Benin teaching hospital. To guide this study, three research questions were raised. The survey research design was used in conducting the study. The main instrument employed to carry out the study was a self-structured questionnaire. The population of the study was 100. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the supervisor and two other experts in the field of research study. The reliability of the instrument was established using the test retest reliability. The data obtained from the questionnaires were subjected to analysis using frequency count and percentages.
At the end of the study it was recommended that Health professionals should Provide comprehensive and accurate information about family planning methods, their benefits, and potential side effects. This can help mothers make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
Enlightenment campaign should be used to educate the mothers that family planning is for all who are sexually active and not only for couples. Health professionals should give information on the side effects of methods to allow people know what to expect and eradicate fear. More awareness on family planning should be available in hard copies in other to reach a larger population and it should also be made available on media. Government should reduce the cost of contraceptives to enable more women have access to family planning.
