ABSTRACT
The study investigated the Impact of technology in early childhood development education in public primary schools in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. The design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey research design. Three research questions were raised to guide this study: What is the impact of technology in early childhood development in Primary schools? What is the impact of technology in children’s development? To what extent does the use of technology have impact on early childhood development in Primary schools? The population of the study consisted of three hundred and sixty (360) teachers in public primary schools in Oredo Local Government Edo State. A sample size of (60) respondents was drawn using the purposive sampling technique. The data received from the respondents were checked critically for completeness and accuracy and was analysed by the use of a computer statistical tool (SPSS). Results after analyses were presented on tables and displayed using percentages and frequency count. The study revealed that most public schools in Oredo Local Government Area lack the use of adequate technology materials which the teachers can utilize. It also indicates the importance of technology for pupils as it helps them to learn better, build their self-confidence, develop physically, emotionally, socially and mentally. It was also discovered technology allows pupils to express themselves, increase their knowledge and improve their potentials in academic performance. The study therefore recommended that school teachers should ensure that every student has equal opportunity to utilize technology by incorporating technology in the classroom, which can enhance students learning experience thereby making learning enjoyable.
