ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of teacher’s education qualification on the performance of senior secondary school students in economics in a sample of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The teacher qualification has strong influence in academic performance of senior secondary students, significant relationship exist between teachers years of experience and students’ academic performance in economic. The sample size of the study is 105 random selected from three randomly selected schools in Egor Local Government.
The findings from the study include that there is significant impact of teachers’ qualification on students’ academic performance in Economics in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that there is a significant impact of teachers’ qualification on students’ participation in classroom activities in Economics in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
The study recommended that the government should strengthen the recruitment process for teachers by setting higher academic and professional standards by ensuring that Economics teachers are adequately trained in their subject matter and teaching methodologies.
