IMPACT OF TAX EDUCATION ON TAX COMPLIANCE IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF EDO STATE)

ABSTRACT

Tax compliance remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, with far reaching implications for economic development. This study examines the impact of tax education on tax compliance in Edo State, Nigeria. The study examined this specific objectives Organizing tax seminars, Handbills/Simple books on taxation and disseminating tax information through radio and social media on tax compliance in Edo State. A survey research design was adopted and a sample of 400 questionnaire copies were distributed to individual tax payers of Edo state. Descriptive statistics such as percentages, tables were used to analyse the data and regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis of the study. The outcome of the findings revealed that there is a positive significant relationship between tax education and tax compliance in Edo state. The study therefore, recommends that targeted tax education programs, increased awareness campaigns and collaborative efforts between tax authorities and taxpayers to enhance tax compliance in Edo State and in Nigeria as a whole. This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge on tax compliance and provides practical insights for tax administrators.
