ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was designed to examine the impact of social media and promotion of good and services among students. To guide the study, three research questions were raised which are outlined thus: To what extent does products adverts on social media influences student’s patronage? Does students get addicted to products patronage from social media platforms? Does gender patronage affects product advertising among students? The study adopted survey research design because the sampled elements and the variables under investigation were observed without any attempt to control or manipulate them from these three research questions, 18 items were raised in the questionnaire The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. Population of the study consisted of final year Business Administration students in the university of Benin, Ugbowo Benin City, Edo Sate. The findings from the study revealed that the respondents agreed that the adverts of some products and services increases students’ interest to buy more. Its also revealed that majority of the respondents agreed that social media also create awareness of different products as advertised. It was revealed that products adverts make people to buy desired products. It was revealed students always check online for advert of new products and services. there is a great emerging opportunity of selling products not only at the local market anymore but now to the entire world via social media networks such as Instagram, Facebook etc. All small and medium 13 sized retailers who crave for growth should plunge their businesses into the social media networks like Instagram. Students consumers also should endeavour to patronize via social media networks such as Instagram.
