Abstract

This study investigates the intertwined impacts of poverty and inequality on the socio-economic development of Oredo Local Government, Edo State, Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods approach, we explore the prevalence and dimensions of poverty and inequality, and their effects on education, employment, healthcare, and income. Our analysis reveals significant correlations between poverty, inequality, and socio-economic development indicators. The findings suggest that poverty and inequality perpetuate a vicious cycle, hindering socio-economic development in Oredo Local Government. We recommend evidence-based policy interventions, including social safety nets, education and skills training, and job creation programs, to address poverty and inequality. By tackling these issues, we can unlock the potential for sustainable socio-economic development in Oredo Local Government.
