IMPACT OF PIDGIN ON URHOBO INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE OF DELTA STATE

                                                   ABSTRACT

This study is based on the impact of pidgin on Urhobo indigenous language of delta state. This study highlight different as a result in the decline in the use of the indigenous language. Such as attitudinal determinant, the indigenous language as language of instruction .

The motivation for this work is as a result of low degree in the use of indigenous language, which is now becoming the first language of some children and few youths. After analysing the questionnaire, the findings shows the impact pidgin has had on Urhobo language in regards to the decline in the language.

In conclusion, we found out that  the use of pidgin has almost taken the place of Urhobo language in delta state using Uvwie, Udu and Warri as an area of population.

This research is open for further investigation and critics for further studies.
