Obesity can also be defined as an increase in body weight beyond the limits of physical requirement, as the result of an excessive accumulation of fat. Accumulation of fat, or triacylglycerol, is essentially the only way that body weight can become excessive, as other energy storage (e.g. carbohydrate glycogen or protein in liver and muscle) does not have the potential of adipose tissue to exceed the limits of requirement. The aim of this study was to investigate the variance in the concentration of Interleukin6 in young obese females. Sixty (60) apparently healthy female subjects were recruited for this study between the age range of 18 and 25 years. Thirty normal weight subjects as control and Thirty Obese females for the experimental group. Obesity for this study was recognized as BMI greater or equal 30kgm/m2. 4.5mls of blood samples were collected into lithium heparin bottles for hematological estimation in the laboratory using Double Antibody Sandwich ELISA Method. The results showed an increase in interleukin 6 concentration in obese subjects though not statistically significant (p>0.05).In Conclusion , this study revealed that the concentration of IL-6 was elevated with increasing adiposity and to be associated with obesity-related complications such as insulin resistances and cardiovascular diseases.
