ABSTRACT

This study focused on employee performance and motivation using employees from three (3) different banks branches: Union Bank, Eco Bank and Fidelity Bank in Benin City, Edo State. The objective of this study was to determine variables that affect employee motivation and performance. The variables examined include salary, communication and working conditions.

The instrument used for the purpose of this research was the primary research instrument (questionnaire). The information gathered from the questionnaire was summarized in form of table and analyzed using frequency, simple percentage and mean. 100 questionnaires was administered to respondent, out of this 100 questionnaire ,  85copies was filled and returned which was used by the researcher to run this analysis. The data were examined using an inferential analysis approach based on sample regression analysis ( CHI SQUARE METHOD) to test the validity of the hypothesis and determine the nature of the link between employee performance and motivation.

According to the study the biggest number of employees is motivated by pay, job security also influences employees performance because it helps to guarantee the employees that their jobs are safe, the study also shows that effective supervision also plays a role in affecting employees performance, good relationship with co-workers is also a motivating factor, this is what the research carried out in Union Bank, Fidelity Bank and Eco Bank branches at Benin City, shows. The management of Union Bank, Fidelity Bank and Eco Bank in Benin City should foster a culture of open communication in order to increase worker effectiveness. This will encourage workers to address management directly with complaints because management will promptly provide feedback.  Communication between employers and employees has a big impact on how well employees perform in an organization. Employee performance inside a business is positively impacted by their compensation. Therefore, management must take all necessary steps to guarantee that all employees are appropriately motivated in order for them to perform successfully within the firm.

Based on the research carried out it was discover that motivation has a great impact on employee performance, a worker or staff who is motivated can go an extra mile for the organization, motivation boost the moral and interest of the worker to ensure that the organization goals and objective is been achieve.
