ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of library automation on service delivery among academic libraries: a case study of the University of Benin Library. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The population of the study comprises of all the staffs in John Harris Library, University of Benin, Benin City. The sample size for the study was made up of fifty nine (59) respondents randomly selected from John Harris Library, University of Benin, Benin City. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean and standard deviation.
The findings from the study include that the problems militating against library automation in University of Benin Library include poor power, lack of support from the government, insufficient staff to carry out automation process and insufficient fund to maintain automation process. It was concluded that there is a significant impact of library automation on service delivery among academic libraries.
The study recommended among others that the university management should ensure that software packages for automation of academic library are provided adequately and effectively.
