ABSTRACT
The study focused on the impact of Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS) on the
quality of library services in John Harris Library, Specifically, the study was targeted at
identifying the types of integrated library management systems adopted by John Harris Library,
examining the extent to which integrated library management systems has enhanced the quality
of library operations in John Harris Library, assessing the impact of Integrated Library
Management Systems (ILMS) on the quality of library services in John Harris Library,
identifying the challenges faced by librarians in improving the quality of library services and
developing strategies to overcome the challenges associated with improving the quality of
library services in John Harris Library. The study adopted the use of descriptive survey research
design, Eighty-seven (87) copies of questionnaires were administered, while eighty (80) copies
were retrieved from the respondents and found worthy of use. The obtained data were analysed
using frequency counts, simple percentages, mean and standard deviation.
The study findings revealed the adoption, impact, challenges, and strategies related to the use of
Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS) in John Harris Library. The findings indicate
that the library utilizes multiple types of ILMS, with KOHA being the most widely adopted.
Other systems, including NEW GEN LIB, SLAM, and CDS, are also in use, while EVERGREEN
has limited implementation. This suggests that the library relies on a combination of ILMS to
support its operations. The study further revealed that ILMS has significantly enhanced the
quality of library operations by reducing manual data entry and minimizing human errors. It has
also improved user services and enhanced the management of electronic resources, making
information more accessible to users. Despite its benefits, several challenges hinder the effective
implementation of ILMS in John Harris Library. The study highlights staff training, technical
infrastructure limitations, and data security concerns as major obstacles. Additionally, financial
constraints and rapid technological advancements pose significant difficulties in maintaining
and upgrading ILMS. To address these challenges, the study suggests several strategies,
including regular software updates, continuous staff training, improved technical support, and
strategic financial planning. Investing in these areas will help enhance the functionality of ILMS
and ensure its sustainability. Training programs, The following recommendations were given in
light of this study,The library management should ensure that ILMS software is regularly
updated to improve functionality, security, and efficiency. This will help prevent system failures
and enhance the overall user experience, Regular training programs should be organized for
library staff to enhance their technical skills and competence in using ILMS, lastly, the institution
should invest in robust technical infrastructure to support the seamless operation of ILMS.
