IMPACT OF INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES ON SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES IN BENIN METROPOLIS

ABSTRACT

This study is an evaluation of the impact of infrastructural facilities on small and medium scale enterprises in Benin metropolis. The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study was two hundred (200) small and medium scale enterprise within Benin Metropolis and a sample size of 108 respondents were administered questionnaires to collect data for the study. The researcher made use of Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression technique in analysing the relationship between infrastructural facilities and small and medium scale enterprise. The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between telecommunications and small and medium scale enterprise; power supply is a major constrains to the development of small and medium scale enterprise; and there is a significant linkage between transportation and small and medium scale enterprise. Based on the findings, the study therefore recommends among others that the State Government should create the necessary infrastructural facilities like accessible roads, efficient power and electricity supply and other social amenities for ease of movement of goods and services within and out Benin metropolis. That Government should create the enabling environment for small and medium scale enterprises in Benin Metropolis such as tax rebate to encourage job creation and employment generation.
