Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the impact of Impact of gully erosion on the health and environment of residents in Ekosodin community. Six research questions and two hypotheses were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study.
The survey research design was used for this study. The population for this study was 45,000 residents in Ekosodin community. A sample of 100 respondents was used for the study. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The researcher supervisor and two experts from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education, validated the questionnaire. Their corrections and observation helped in the production of the final copy of the instrument. The reliability of the instrument was established using the split-half method and a coefficient of 0.76 was obtained which reflects that the instrument was reliable. The instrument was administered by the researcher and the data collected was subjected to descriptive statistics and the hypotheses were tested using the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient.
The findings of the study are as follows, majority of the respondents have a high level of knowledge of gully erosion in the Ekosodin community. The majority of the respondents have a high level of knowledge of the impact of gully erosion on the environment. The majority of the respondents have a high level of knowledge of the impact of gully erosion on their health.. The researcher's recommended that to curb gully erosion in Ekosodin community and the following measures should be adopted: Erosion Control Measures: Measures like Soil stabilization techniques (e.g., terracing, re-vegetation), Drainage management systems (e.g., culverts, stormwater management ponds), Erosion-resistant materials for construction and infrastructure should be implemented to prevent and control gully erosion.
