Abstract
This study explored the influence of governmental guidelines on academic attainment among senior secondary students within the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. To fulfill this objective, four research inquiries were formulated and addressed.
A descriptive survey approach was employed for this research. The sample population consisted of 100 participants selected randomly from schools within the local government. Utilizing the simple random sampling technique, five pupils were randomly chosen from each of the 20 public secondary schools in the local government, resulting in a total sample size of 100 participants. Mean score and standard deviation were employed for data analysis.
The study's findings reveal a substantial impact of governmental policies on the effective administration of secondary institutions. It was concluded that governmental policies significantly influence student academic performance in the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. The study proposed, among other things, periodic reviews of existing educational policies, emphasizing their alignment with secondary school students' needs to optimize academic performance.
