ABSTRACT
This research aims to examine the impact of financial performance on the share prices of publicly traded deposit services banks in Nigeria. The study focuses on key financial performance indicators, such as operating profit margin, net interest margin, and earnings per share, to evaluate their effects on the share prices of deposit money banks in the country. Utilizing an ex post facto research design, the analysis draws on data from the Nigeria Exchange Group. The sample includes twelve (12) listed deposit money banks, covering an eight-year period from 2016 to 2023. Descriptive analysis was employed to summarize the data, while panel least squares regression was used to assess the relationships between the variables. The results revealed that the operating profit margin has a direct and significant influence on the share prices of listed commercial banks
. In contrast, the net interest margin was found to have no significant effect on share prices. Meanwhile, earnings per share demonstrated a positive and significant impact on the share prices of these banks. The study concludes that financial performance plays a crucial role in determining the share prices of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. It recommends that these banks prioritize improving their operating profit margins as a strategy to enhance their market valuation
