ABSTRACT
This study was aimed towards analysing Employability Skills required by Business Education graduates in a modern office in Public Universities in Edo State. The purpose of this study was examine why Business Education graduates were not being employed in a modern office. Communication skills, teamwork skills, leadership skills and technological skills are highly required.A descriptive survey method was adopted for the study while sample of eighty (80) was used as a representative of the entire population of business Education were the respondent. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection which was carefully drafted to answer the research questions. It was rated on the scale ranging from Very High extent to very low extent.
The research instrument was validated by the two expert from Vocational Technical Education (VTE) before it was administered. Their opinions, suggestions and recommendations was used to produce the final instrument. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. In order to interpret the results of the research, a range scale was used for example any item with a mean score greater than 3 and less than or equal to 4 were considered as Very High Extent (VHE) in confirming with the ( title employability Skills Required by Business Education Graduates in a Modern Office” QIESRBEGOMO). A reliability coefficient of 0.87 was gotten using Cronbach alpha method. From the analysis carried out in the study it can be concluded that employability skills are highly required from business Education graduates to function effectively and productively in a modern office and lack of some of the technological requirements like good computers in the laboratory and consistent practical is very important for business Education students to help enhance learning.
Students and graduates should seek relevant professional trainings from recognized and registered professional bodies both within and outside the country like Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Business educators including Shorthand and typing teachers should be encouraged and motivated in order to be more productive and efficient in imparting these skills. Government and school administrators should endeavor to provide necessary facility like working Computers for training of business Education students to meet modern day needs.
