ABSTRACT
The study focuses on Impact of digital conservative measures towards preserving information resources in Academic libraries. The study goals were focused on the Impact of digital conservative measures towards preserving information resources in Academic libraries in Nigeria, digital conservative measures employed in Nigerian academic libraries, impacts of digital conservative measures in Academic libraries, sustainable techniques of maintaining the use of digital conservative measures in Academic Libraries, challenges faced by Nigerian academic libraries in using digital conservative measures to preserve information resources in Academic libraries.
This study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The data collected was also analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study reveals that digital repository platform, backup and redundancy, access control measures implementation, standardized digital preservation practices, collaboration amongst libraries and equipping library staff with the required skills for digital conservation are the digital conservative measures employed in Nigerian academic libraries towards preserving information resources.
Based on the results, it was recommend that academic libraries should subscribe to anti – virus software for constant scanning of their computer systems in the quest of eliminating any form of information loss, there should be regular and constant trainings of staff on the handling and preservation of the libraries information resources, academic libraries management should allot more funds for the development of conservation and preservation in their libraries, collaboration with international agencies that specializes in funding of library managements should also be put into consideration by library managements, academic libraries should find way to curb disasters to reduce catastrophic damage and loss of information resources.
