IMPACT OF DEMONSTRATION ON STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS PROPER HYGIENE AND SANITATION

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to investigate the impact of demonstration on students’ knowledge and attitudes of towards proper hygiene and sanitation. Three research questions and two hypotheses were raised and literature related to the study reviewed. The Quasi Experimental research was used for this study and the population consisted 153 students across two course areas, health education and Environmental Education in the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental education 2022/2023 session and purposive sampling technique was used in selection of fifty(50)undergraduate students which were drawn from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education(HSE)in the Faculty of Education, University of Benin for the purpose of the study. The instrument data collection was a well structured questionnaire and was analyzed using simple percentage and ANCOVA. The test- retest method was used to establish reliability of the questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed that students from the experimental groups who were exposed to the demonstration (Health Education workshop) developed greater knowledge have good attitude towards proper hygiene and sanitation compared to those students in the control group who were excluded from the demonstration (Health Education workshop).The difference in their attitudes was significant, based on the data from the findings of this study.
