ABSTRACT
The study investigated the impact of cultural differences on English language teaching in adult literacy centres in Benin City, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and answered.
The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The sample size for the study was made up of all the 82 facilitators in the five (5) literacy centres in Benin City, Edo State.An analysis of data was done using mean statistics and standard deviation.
The major finding from the study include that there is low level of English language proficiency among adult learners in adult literacy centres in Benin City. It was concluded that there is a significant impact of cultural differences on English language teaching in adult literacy centres in Benin City.The study recommended among others that the Ministry of Education should develop English language teaching materials that are culturally relevant and sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of adult learners in Nigeria. They should incorporate local languages, customs, and examples to enhance comprehension and engagement.
