ABSTRACT
This paper explores the intricate relationship between Christianity and traditional marriage practices in Kwale, Delta State, Nigeria. By employing a sociocultural lens, it examines how the advent and proliferation of Christianity 10 have reshaped the dynamics, rituals, and values associated with traditional marriages in the region. Drawing upon ethnographic research and historical analysis, this study investigates the ways in which Christian doctrines, beliefs, and practices have intersected with and, in some cases, transformed indigenous marriage customs. It also sheds light on the tensions, negotiations, and adaptations that occur as individuals and communities navigate between traditional and Christian influences in the context of marital rites. Through this exploration, the paper aims to provide insights into the evolving nature of marriage ceremonies and relationships in a multicultural and religiously diverse society, contributing to a deeper understanding of the impact of Christianity on local traditions in Kwale, Delta State.
