SUMMARY
Missionary activities in the Olomu was a child of circumstances. It witnessed some upheavals in the past as a result of certain factors. Christianity had no permanent footing in Nigeria2 , until the penetration of the protestant and Catholic missionaries. Christianity began with the Itshekiri and their neighbors the Urhobo because of their geographical location. The Portuguese came in contact with the Itshekiri3 . The Emergence of Christianity in the Land was as a result of British penetration into the hinterlands of the land. The first attempt to Christianize the in 1555 was a failure as a result of the inability of Domingos3 the son of, the Olu of Warri to become a priest. More so, the difficulty of providing trained indigenous priest was also a set back to the propagation of Christianity among the Olomu clan of Urhobo people. Closely relate to this is the climate of Nigeria which was unfavourable for the European Missionaries. The Urhobos were superstitious of the implication of baptism that they were reluctant to release their children for baptism, fearing that if they do so their children would die.
