ABSTRACT
The issue of children's lack of discipline has spread to the majority of primary schools in Nigeria. Primary school discipline is not just a function of the educational system, though. Through the process of nurturing, parents can influence how their child develops. Still, a lot of parents ignore their kids because they are involved in other things. The study investigated the connection between child development in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, Four research questions were raised to guide the study.
The study's target population consisted of children in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State who had a history of indiscipline. It employed a correlational study design. Using stratified random sampling, the sample size, whereby, 200 pupils were chosen from ten elementary schools in the Area, representing primary 5 and 6. A questionnaire was employed by the researcher as a means of collection of data from cohort while simultaneously preserving the privacy of the respondents. Data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential techniques.
Considering the study's objectives, it finds a high correlation between children's lack of discipline in school and absentee parenting. The majority of children suffer greatly and have many difficulties when their parents are away. Among the difficulties a child experiencing absentee parenthood faces are a dislike of school regulations, a dislike of authority, a sense of not being able to love their parents, a lack of people with whom to share problems, a constant sense of loneliness, and extremely uncomfortable school lives. These play a role in the lack of discipline in schools. It was observed, although, that the impact of absence is tempered by factors such as parental position, age, gender, and class level, all of which affect how children view absentee parenthood. Based on the results, it was suggested that employers, social service providers, and places of worship instruct parents on the importance of spending more quality time with their children by showing them emotional support. Companies ought to grant parents a minimum of ten days of annual leave, especially so they may spend more time with their kids. The study concluded that there is a strong positive correlation between absentee parenthood and the challenges faced by the child.
