ABSTRACT

The growth responses of Selenastrum capricornutum and Hydrodicton reticulatum to abattoir waste water were studied. The microalgae species were cultured medium for fourteen(14) day using different concentrations 0% (control), 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% of Abattoir waste water. The microalgae growth responses were determined using a visible spectrophotometer at absorbance of 750nm. Physicochemical parameters such as Temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids and total organic compound were analyzed using standard methods. Inferential (one way analysis of variance) ANOVA repeated measures, descriptive statistics, paired t- test were performed using Microsoft Excel and the statistical tool SPSS20. The results of the t-test analysis showed that there were significant differences (p<0.05) in the growth of Selenastrum capricornutum and Hydrodicton reticulatum.
