ABSTRACT

The study examines ICT adoption and Tax administration using Oredo Local government in Benin City, Edo state as a case study. In order to achieve this objective of the Study Five Research Questions were raised. The study investigated the Adoption of ICT in tax administration, The effectiveness and efficiency of tax administration, How ICT bridge the deficiencies in tax administration , How ICT adoption increase the compliance of tax payment and Imminent and peculiar challenges of ICT adoption in tax administration. A descriptive Survey Research design was adopted in carrying out this study. The population Comprises (20) members of staff of the Tax agency and eighty (80) members of eligible tax payer, which made the total one hundred (100), sample Size. A structured question was used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analysed and the result represented. Findings from the study revealed that: 1. ICT will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of tax administration in Oredo local government, Edo state. 2. ICT will bridge the deficiencies in tax administration in Oredo local government, Edo state. 3. The adoption of ICT into Tax administration will increase compliance to tax payment 4. There are some Imminent and peculiar challenges of ICT adoption in tax administration such as lack of IT trained personnel, insufficiency of financial resources, lack of Maintenance culture, The poor power supply and Network connectivity and the current state of infrastructure which is a drawback to tax administration in Oredo. A structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analysed and result represented.
