ABSTRACT

This study investigates the effect of human resource management practices on construction firm workers' intention to leave in Edo State. The study continues by assessing the HRM procedures used by Edo State's construction firm employees. The study examines the HRM procedures used by big and small construction firms in Edo State and establishes a link between HRM procedures and employees' intentions to leave those firms. A carefully constructed questionnaire that was sent to professionals working for firms in Edo State was used to gather the data for the study. Mean item scores and spearman rank correlation were used to analyze the data collected. There were distributed 145 questionnaires in total, and 93 people answered them. This determined the size of the research sample. The study reveals that the most common HRM practices in Benin City, E. Nigeria were the following: assigning the appropriate staff to the appropriate department to achieve the company's overall goals; orienting and training newly hired employees; screening applicants for open positions; organizing workshops, seminars, and training to improve employee skill; and requiring staff to participate in training while the company is waiting to secure other projects. The survey also demonstrates that there is no difference in the rate of adoption of HRM practices between large and small businesses in Edo State. The study shows a negative association between HRM practices and the intention of construction firm employees in Edo State to leave their jobs, suggesting that at the current rate of adoption, construction firm employees will leave their jobs frequently. On the basis of this study paper's findings, a conclusion and recommendations are provided.
