ABSTRACT

This study examined human resource development and organisational performance in Nigerian telecommunication industry. The objectives of the study were to examine the influence of talent development, the influence of training and development, and the influence of career development on organisational performance in Nigerian telecommunication industry.

The data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics and linear regression analysis. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the data, and they comprise frequency distribution tables, percentages and averages. The linear regression test was used to examine the effect of human resource development on organisational performance with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The findings from the study revealed that talent development has a t-value of 16.106, p<0.05, which implies that there is significant relationship between talent development and organisational performance, training and development had a t-value of 14.564, p<0.05, which implies that there is significant relationship between training and development and organisational performance in telecommunication industry in Benin City, Edo State, and career development had a t-value of 16.065, p<0.05. This implies that there is significant relationship between career development and organisational performance in telecommunication industry in Benin City, Edo State.

It was then recommended that the telecommunication industry should identify employees with high potential and provide them with opportunities for growth and development, and also implement talent development programs such as mentorship, leadership development, and succession planning to nurture and retain top performers, they should encourage a culture of continuous learning and skill development by providing employees with access to training programs, workshops, and online learning platforms, the telecommunication industry should stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and invest in training programs to ensure employees have the necessary skills to leverage new technologies effectively. They should encourage innovation and provide a platform for employees to suggest and implement technological improvements, and the telecommunication industry should focus on creating a positive work environment that promotes employee engagement, foster open communication, encourage teamwork, and recognize and reward employees for their contributions, and also conduct regular employee surveys to gather feedback and take action on areas of improvement.
