ABSTRACT
Polyherbal extracts have been traditionally used in various traditional medicine systems for their purported aphrodisiac and reproductive health benefits. These extracts often contain phytochemicals with potential hormone-modulating properties, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. These compounds may act through various mechanisms, including antioxidant effects, modulation of hormone receptor activity, and regulation of enzyme pathways involved in hormone metabolism. Given that diabetes mellitus can have various effects on hormonal properties in males, including alterations in testosterone and androgen levels, there is potential for polyherbal extract to modulate these hormonal imbalances. This study aims to investigate the hormonal properties of a polyherbal leaf aqueous extract composed of (Annona muricata, Zingiber officinale, Andrographis paniculata) in streptozotocin-induced male aphrodisiac rats, focusing on testicular function. The allocation of male Sprague-Dawley rats into six groups was randomized. The rats were induced with streptozotocin to mimic diabetic conditions, and some were subsequently treated with varying doses of the polyherbal extract (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 200 mg/kg). Negative control received distilled water and food, Positive control received Glibenclamide (10 mg/kg). The results showed a significant increase in both testosterone and androgen levels of the animals treated with the polyherbal aqueous extract compared with the untreated control (diabetic group).
