ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to examine the health impact of rural-urban migration in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. A closed ended questionnaire was designed to collect data from the target population of 400 respondents both married men and women. Also, four (4) health personnel were interviewed on some of the factors as it affects rural-urban migration. The results were analysed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). The study reveals that (50.5%) of the respondents were referred from rural to urban health facility either due to lack of equipment, inadequate medical personnel, complications or due to unaffordability of health facility. This study therefore recommends that, the government should provide funds to help equip hospital and build standard health centres in rural areas and make it affordable for people, this can reduce the movement of rural-urban migration in Benin city.
