ABSTRACT
This project explores the concept of healing within the Old Testament of the Bible and African Traditional Religion, examining the similarities, differences, and cultural contexts in which these two belief systems address physical and spiritual well-being. Through an in-depth analysis of scripture, rituals, and practices, we aim to shed light on the various approaches to healing, including prayer, herbal remedies, and ritual ceremonies, within these two distinct but interconnected belief systems. By comparing and contrasting these perspectives on healing, this study seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the role of faith, tradition, and community in the pursuit of health and wholeness. Furthermore, this project will investigate the cultural and historical contexts that have shaped the understanding of healing in both the Old Testament and African Traditional Religion. It will explore the impact of colonization, globalization, and modernization on traditional healing practices in African societies, as well as the ongoing relevance and adaptability of these practices in the contemporary world. Through a multidisciplinary approach that combines religious studies, anthropology, and theology, this research aims to provide valuable insights into the diverse ways in which communities approach healing and well-being. By examining the Old Testament alongside African Traditional Religion, we seek to encourage dialogue between these belief systems, fostering a greater appreciation for the rich tapestry of human spirituality and its profound implications for health and healing. This project aspires to contribute to the broader conversation on the intersection of religion, culture, and health, with the hope of promoting tolerance, understanding, and collaboration among different religious and cultural groups in our globalized society. To achieve these objectives, this study will employ a comprehensive research methodology, including textual analysis, ethnographic fieldwork, and interviews with practitioners and scholars from both the Old Testament and African Traditional Religion backgrounds. By engaging with individuals who have first-hand experience with healing practices in these belief systems, we aim to capture the nuanced perspectives and lived realities of healing within these communities. The findings of this research may have practical implications for healthcare, as they may offer insights into complementary and alternative healing methods that could benefit individuals seeking holistic approaches to health. Moreover, the project may contribute to fostering cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in healthcare settings by promoting a better understanding of diverse belief systems and their influence on health-seeking behavior.
