ABSTRACT
This study investigates the hematological effects of the polyherbal aqueous extract in sprague Dawley rats. Plant samples were collected and prepared into extract, using maceration technique. Thirty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats were grouped into control group and graded does of the extract (polyherbal aqueous extract) at (50,100 and 200mg/kg). Graded does of extract were orally administered to the animals daily for 9 days. Hematological analysis (Red blood cell (count (RBC), Mean Corpuscular Volume(MCV), Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration, Platelet count, White blood cell, and differential White Blood Cell) were evaluated. The result showed a significant increase in the red blood count (RBC), white blood count (WBC)and the platelet count, across the test doses when compared with the control. These studies showed that the polyherbal extract improved the hematological potential. In conclusion, the polyherbal aqueous extract as clearly seen has haemato-suppressive ability on glycemic rats. However, further research and clinical studies are required to validate these discoveries and their impact in medicine.
