ABSTRACT
This study investigates the hematological effects of the polyherbal aqueous extract in Wistar rats. Plant samples were collected and prepared into extract, using maceration technique. Twenty adult Wistar rats were grouped into control group and graded doses of the extract (polyherbal aqueous extract) at (200, 400, and 800mg/kg). Graded doses of extract were orally administered to the animals daily for 28 days. Hematological analysis (Red blood cell count (RBC), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration, Platelet count, White blood cell, and differential White Blood Cell) were evaluated. The result showed a significant increase in the red blood count (RBC), white blood count (WBC), and platelet count, across the test doses when compared with the control. These studies showed that the polyherbal leaf extract improved the hematological potential. In conclusion, this study elicited haematoprotective effect in the treated groups, validating the ethnomedicinal report.
