GROUP DYNAMICS OF PERSONALITY TRAITS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HOCKEY PLAYERS IN UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at finding out how group dynamics of personality traits of hockey players affect team performance in the University of Benin. To achieve this, five research questions were raised and answered. The study was delimited to all hockey players in University of Benin considering both male and female. The descriptive survey design was used, with a population of 50 hockey players in the University of Benin. The entire population was used. A self-constructed questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection from the sample. Content validity was applied to the selfconstructed questionnaire which was then modified based on feedback from the researcher supervisor and one other expert in the department. Data collected from the questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive statistic of frequency counts and percentage for demographic data and mean and standard deviation for research questions. The findings gained from the study shows that different personality traits of players contribute to team performance. The study sees the need to understand each individual peculiarity to be able to encourage team performance. It includes understanding the different personality traits of players and how to leverage each individual personality traits to optimize team performance.
