SUMMARY
This research has considered the administration of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as one of the presidents of Nigeria under the Fourth Republic. Some policies and programs adopted during his administration have also been considered.
His administration and style of governance have revolved around inclusive governance and transformative development in the spirit of democracy. Some laudable achievements were recorded under his administration such as the reformation of the electoral processes to ensure credible elections, improvement of the national economy, managing the Niger Delta crisis, improvement of electricity and power generation, diversification of the economy and effective agricultural subsidy programs to farmers, improved standard of education at basic and tertiary levels, freedom of expression, e.t.c.
Despite the achievements recorded, the Jonathan administration still suffered from some performance disabilities1 some of which were inherited from previous administration and others peculiar to his tenure. Some of these include: the Niger Delta stalemate that lingered from previous administrations; the growing insecurity set off by the Boko Haram terrorist group, culminating in the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014; high cost of living caused by inflation; allegations and real cases of corruption and looting of public funds by top government officials; and the question of removal of fuel subsidy. These were real issues that were present in the Jonathan administration.
