ABSTRACT

This research study delves into the intricate relationship between godfatherism and political development in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. This study explores the evolving nature of this influence and its impact on the occurrence and resolution of political conflicts in the state. The research employs a comprehensive methodology that combines an extensive review of academic literature, journals for the secondary data.

It investigates how godfatherism has evolved in Nigeria over the study period, tracking the shifting alliances, key players, and mechanisms through which political proteges are influenced and controlled. The research uncovers the various dimensions of political developments that have arisen in the state. Furthmore, The study evaluates the socio-economic repercussions of political conflicts in Edo State, shedding light on how these conflicts have influenced development, investment, and the delivery of public services. It investigates the impact of godfatherism and political developments on the Economy, electoral processes and outcomes, examining voter behavior, electoral violence, and the integrity of elections.

In conclusion, this research seeks to inform policy makers, academic, civil society, organizations, and the general public about the challenges, and opportunities presented by the dynamics of God-fatherism and political Development in Nigeria.
