Abstract
This research critically analysis the crisis of leadership and the prevalent gerontocracy system of leadership in Africa, with emphasis on the ameliorating ideologies of Nelson Mandela, as one of the foremost African nationalist, who fought to change the status quo of the colonial white domination of Africa, his philosophies and leadership prowess. The research delves into the root of the unappealing and disappointing crisis that has bedeviled Africa post Independence, with special attention to the ill effects of gerontocracy in various African countries. This study employs the philosophical method of critical analysis and hermeneutics which involves the interpretation of relevant texts, this hermeneutics will enable us to interpret Nelson Mandela's concept of leadership as a panacea to the problem and crisis of leadership in Africa.
