SUMMARY
This essay has explored the neglect and abandonment of a culture in two texts from different generations. From this study, it is obvious that the coming of the British into the shores of Africa had a ripple effect on the culture and religion of the African people. From earlier generations, African societies started drifting away from what made them unique and what constitutes their identity. This is because every attempt at a rediscovery of their history and culture was intentionally thwarted by the colonial masters who plotted their arrival with the underlying goal of subduing the people completely. This led to a cultural shift and a gradual adoption of Western culture that is completely foreign and unfit for the unique African people. Following the Advent of technology, African states are more than ever before wallowing in the cesspit of a cultural crisis as globalisation and the proliferation of social media has made it even easier for African nation’s to be sold a different way of life imported from the West. Consequently, neo-colonialism continues to flourish as Africans are faced with a new dilemma which basically is the fact that they have decided subconsciously to submit to Western influence. The aim of the West which is to establish cultural inferiority in the hearts of the Africans to make them believe that they are an inferior race.
