ABSTRACT
Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular scale of 1 to 100 inm (10-9 m = 1 nm). Nanotechnology has introduced new industrial revolution and the interests in this field has grown enormously over the years. The current study was aimed at synthesis and characterization of gold and silver nanoparticles from Aspergillusniger isolated from petroleum-polluted soil and also examining their application as antimicrobial and bioremediation agents. Phenotypic and molecular characterization was used to ascertain the identity of Aspergillusniger. UV/VIS spectrophotometry was used to confirm the presence of the biosynthesized Ag, Au and Ag-AuNPs. FTIR and XRD techniques were further used to characterize the nanoparticles formed. The crystallinity of nanoparticles was determined via X-ray Diffraction(XRD) itechnique, the XRD peaks were compared with the Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Stardards (JCPDS) card as a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal lattice structure. The FTIR spectra of iAu, Ag and Au-Ag nanoparticles exhibited two peaks related to hydroxyl (OH) and carbonyl (C=O) groups. the presence of hydroxyl (OH) group in Ag, Au and Ag-Au composite could be ascribed ito peaks at 3353, 3310 and 3302 cm-1, respectively. The peaks at 1638, 1633 and 1642 cm-1 irevealed that the functional groups in Au, Ag and Au-Ag NPs were (C=O) group. The biosynthesized nanoparticles exerted antimicrobial effects which can inactivate membrane integrity and bioremediation properties. The NPs synthesized may be suitable for pharmaceutical formulations as well as biological activities in different field such remediation.
