ABSTRACT
Boko Haram, a word synonymous with terror in the twenty first century has its roots founded in a convoluted network of grievances, social marginalisation, and a desire for what was thought to be a more purer form of Islam. This study examined the emergence of Boko Haram as an insurgency, its terrifying transformation into a recognised terrorist group, and the catastrophic effects it has had on the Nigerian government and state.
