“Fool's Paradise” tells the story of the primitive belief in the superiority of the male child over the female child in society. The characters and setting of the story, however, point to the fact that such beliefs which are generally ascribed to pre-colonial communities seem to persist even among persons who are considered educated.

The author uses both the setting and characters in the story to buttress the point that the challenge posed by discriminatory beliefs against the female child is still very active
