ABSTRACT

The study investigated food insecurity knowledge and how it can be promoted to good health among adolescents in Ikpoba Okha Local Government area, Edo State. Six research questions were raised, and the study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study consisted of secondary school students in Ikpoba okha local government area. The sample size was obtained by using simple percentage to get 10% of the Population, which was 72 adolescents. The research instrument that was used to elicit opinions and facts from the adolescents was structured questionnaire. It was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s supervisor and one other experts in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. The reliability was determined using 72 students who were randomly selected and were not part of the study. However, alpha value 0.691 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using mean (x), standard deviation (SD). The findings generally showed the multifaceted nature of food insecurity, its prevalence, and its adverse effects on nutritional status, academic performance, and mental health among adolescents. Additionally, it explores strategies for promoting food insecurity awareness and interventions aimed at improving access to nutritious foods among the populations. It is recommended that school management should organize seminars and workshop for students where dieticians can educate them on the right type of eating habits to adopt by educating them on dietary guidelines and recommendations and also how to come with Limited Resources which affects food availability and accessibility
